DOUBLECHECK
Version 1.0.3

Check one clip for glitches and level problems. Compare two
versions and see exactly where they differ.

Developed by reminitone.

--------------------------------------------------

OVERVIEW

DOUBLECHECK is an AudioSuite plug-in for Pro Tools with two
jobs.

CHECK: capture one clip. DOUBLECHECK lists the glitches in it
(cuts into or out of silence, joins without a fade), clipped
or over-full-scale samples and true-peak overs, and shows the
clip as a spectrogram with every flag marked.

COMPARE: capture two versions of the same material, A and
then B. DOUBLECHECK aligns them, matches level, tone and
dynamics, and shows where B differs from A: on a map of time
and frequency, in a list of changes you can click and loop,
and with a null level that tells you at once whether two
files are the same.

DOUBLECHECK evaluates the waveform by specific tests. A noise
that was put there on purpose can be flagged, and an error
can be missed. Listen before you decide.

--------------------------------------------------

FEATURES

* AAX AudioSuite (Pro Tools), mono to 9.1.6
* CHECK: glitches (CUT TO SILENCE, CUT FROM SILENCE, SPLICE?),
CLIP, 0 dBFS, OVER (32-bit float) and TRUE PEAK over a
  ceiling you set
* COMPARE: alignment to the sample, LEVEL / TONE / DYNAMICS
matched or shown, a null reading, a time x frequency map
of what changed, a numbered CHANGES list with time range,
  frequency range and amount
* AUTO picks OVERALL (two mixes, bounce-to-bounce randomness
ignored) or DETAIL (one source edited; every move listed)
from the material; OVERALL and DETAIL can be chosen by hand
* Listen inside the plug-in: A, B or the difference, looped
around any change or flag, per channel
* Pro Tools follows: a chosen change or flag selects that
range in Pro Tools; RESTORE brings the captured range back
* Captures are kept while the window is closed, so a second
version can be captured later without starting over
* 30-day free trial, one-time purchase license

WORKFLOW

CHECK
1. Select a clip in Pro Tools and open DOUBLECHECK
   (AudioSuite menu). Press CAPTURE A.
2. FLAGS lists what was found; GLITCH / CLIP / TP show or
hide each group. Click a row to hear it in a loop; the
   spectrogram marks every flag.

COMPARE
1. Select the earlier version and press CAPTURE A.
2. Select the new version and press CAPTURE B. The title bar
reads COMPARE and AUTO shows OVERALL or DETAIL.
3. GLOBAL shows the overall offset, level, tone and dynamics
difference. The map shows where B differs (magenta louder
   or new, green quieter or gone). CHANGES lists each change;
click one to loop it and hear A, B or the difference.
4. Pro Tools follows the chosen change. RESTORE A / B
SELECTION re-selects a captured range, e.g. to capture
another B over the same range.

Render (optional) prints what MONITOR is set to: B as it is,
A aligned and level-matched onto B, or DIFF, the difference
B minus A. Choose DIFF to print the difference as audio.
The render can go onto any track, e.g. a new empty one: keep
the same range B was captured from (RESTORE B SELECTION
brings it back), select the target track, press Render.
A and B come from the captures, not from that track.
With every MATCH in GLOBAL switched off, DIFF is the classic
null test (B against A with the polarity flipped), only with
the two aligned to the sample for you. With MATCH on, the
overall level, tone and dynamics differences are taken out
first and DIFF holds only what changed locally.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

- macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
- Apple silicon or Intel Mac (universal; also works when
  Pro Tools runs under Rosetta)
- Pro Tools 2025.06 or later (AAX AudioSuite)
- For timeline positions, follow and RESTORE: Pro Tools
  Scripting enabled (default):
  Setup > Preferences > Operation >
  "Enable Pro Tools Scripting"
Without it DOUBLECHECK still works; times are counted from
the start of the selection, and the link can be switched
  off in Settings.
- Windows is not supported.

--------------------------------------------------

INSTALLATION

1. Run the included installer package (DOUBLECHECK-1.0.3.pkg).
2. Launch Pro Tools.
3. Select audio and choose DOUBLECHECK from the AudioSuite
   menu.

--------------------------------------------------

TRIAL AND ACTIVATION

DOUBLECHECK runs as a fully functional free trial for 30 days
from first launch. After the trial ends, CAPTURE is disabled
and the render output is muted until a license is activated.

To activate:

1. Purchase a license at
   https://reminitone.com/products/doublecheck/
2. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the
   plug-in, then click LICENSE.
3. Paste your license key and click ACTIVATE.

Activation requires an internet connection (only once).
After activation the plug-in works fully offline.

One license can be activated on up to 3 computers.
Use "DEACTIVATE THIS COMPUTER" in the license panel to
free up a seat before moving to another machine.

NOTES

A and B must be the same material: versions of one mix, or
one source before and after editing. Versions at a different
tempo or stretched in time are out of scope.

A capture is held in memory while it fits (the larger of
400 million samples or a twelfth of the machine's RAM per
capture). Past that it goes on in cache files, memory-mapped,
made in a folder "DOUBLECHECK Cache" next to the Pro Tools
session (or in your Caches when no session is open; another
folder can be chosen in Settings). The length is then bounded
by free disk space: a feature-length 7.1 stem at 48 kHz is
about 5.5 GB per hour. The files are temporary in the strictest
sense: each is unlinked the moment it is made, so the Finder
never shows it, and the space comes back by itself when the
capture is let go, the window closes, or Pro Tools quits, even
abruptly. Nothing is ever left behind. (The space is visible
only in the volume's free space meanwhile.)

Settings (gear icon):
- Link to Pro Tools (timeline positions, follow, RESTORE)
  and Follow on / off
- True peak ceiling for FLAGS
- Pre-roll / post-roll of the loop around a chosen change
- Folder for the cache files of long captures
- Show or hide tooltips
- License
- Audio output device for playback inside the plug-in

VERSION HISTORY

v1.0.3
- Multichannel: choosing a channel in the strip above the map
narrows CHANGES and FLAGS to that channel: a change is listed
under the channels in which it shows on its own (the row names
them when they are not all), a flag under the channels it was
  found on. ALL lists everything.
- A window Pro Tools rebuilt no longer loses the captures'
positions: a chosen change or flag follows in Pro Tools again
after the window was closed and reopened.
- Reopening the window is fast on long captures: the waveforms
are prepared once, in the background, and kept with the
  capture.

v1.0.2
- Captures are no longer limited to an hour. A capture that
outgrows memory goes on in cache files next to the session
(bounded by free disk space) and is analysed from there; the
space comes back when the capture is let go.
- Settings: the folder (the drive, really) for those cache
files can be chosen. The files are unlinked as soon as they
are made, so nothing can be left behind and no cloud service
  sees them.
- The dynamics measurement uses far less memory on long captures.
- Analysis is several times faster on long material: the FLAGS
scan, the spectrogram, the pitch / timing / tone measurements and
the envelope readings now use every core, and the cut detector
no longer recomputes its windows sample by sample (a feature-
length 5.1 stem scanned in minutes now takes seconds).
- CLEAR stops a running analysis within a second and lets the
cache files go at once; the window shows ANALYSING... with
  walking dots while it works.
- FLAGS: an unmistakable click (an impulse added to material that
goes on as before, strong on both sides, with no level jump
across it, standing alone) is listed as CLICK at any
sensitivity. Everything else that looks like a splice still
needs the sensitivity raised, as before.
- A chosen change or flag no longer starts playback by itself: it
sets the loop around it and moves the plug-in and Pro Tools
there, and PLAY or the AudioSuite Preview plays it. A flag
chosen with a comparison up loops the comparison, so MONITOR
  switches A / B / DIFF during the loop. A flag in a part of A
that B does not play is still heard from A alone.
- The LOOP button is lit when it is on (its state was hard to
  tell before).
- The AudioSuite Preview button is back (it had been hidden), and
Preview follows MONITOR while it plays: switch A / B / DIFF and
the audition path changes over, with a short crossfade. (Render
still prints what MONITOR said when it started.)
- Preview or Render over a part of B's captured range (a flag's
surroundings, say) now finds where that part sits in B, so A and
DIFF line up and the map's playhead follows the Preview. Audio
that is not in B plays as it is; A and DIFF are silent there.

v1.0.1
- COMPARE lists a stretch that was moved in time (a phrase nudged,
a clip slipped) as TIMING LATE / EARLY with the amount in ms.
GLOBAL OFFSET now means the shift of the capture as a whole and
is not swayed by a moved stretch inside it.
- Captures kept after the window closes are held for one minute
(was five), and are let go when Pro Tools has moved to another
  session in the meantime.
- The window opens at the size it was last dragged to.

v1.0.0
- Initial release
